LOVELAND, Colo. (August 10th, 2015) – The start of the 2015 season for Angel Benitez Jr. and the JDX Racing / Hertz Porsche have produced very good results. The series veteran captured two more second place finishes this past weekend at the historic 4-mile Road America race track in Elkhart Lake, WI.

Having signed the young Venezuelan just three races ago, the JDX Racing / Hertz Porsche arrived at Road America fully intent on taking advantage of all the scheduled track time. Mother Nature had different plans, as the weather wreaked havoc on each of Friday’s two practice sessions, giving JDX race engineer Luke Goldenstein limited track time to tune and set up the No.05 Black and Gold liveried Porsche.

Benitez Jr. qualified his Yokohama shod Porsche GT3 Cup car third for the first race of the weekend, placing him on the inside of row two for the traditional rolling start. The field of 24 Porsche’s rumbled up the hill to the green flag and Angel muscled his way to the inside at turn one, quickly making his way to second as he cleared the first turn. Angel settled in as he and race leader, Jesse Lazare, set the race pace and began to pull away from the field. Benitez followed closely and on a restart from a brief full-course caution, pounced on the young Canadian with an unexpected inside move in turn three, giving Angel the race lead for the next six laps. Lazare then returned the favor in a never before seen pass with an over-under in the 100+ MPH carousel. Angel continued his pursuit for the remainder of the race, settling in and claiming his third straight second place finish.

The final race of the weekend on Sunday positioned the JDX Racing / Hertz Porsche second on the starting grid. Angel started on the outside of row one, making a hard charge for the lead at the first turn, but he was forced to tuck in behind pole sitter Lazare. Angel put constant and heavy pressure on the current series points leader for the entire 45 minute race, and he remained vigilant waiting for a small mistake and a potential opening, but it never came. The #05 JDX / Hertz Porsche finished the race only six-tenths of a second behind the race winner, locking up a string of six straight podium finishes.

Benitez Jr. commented, “I’m very thankful for the opportunity JDX and Hertz have given me and anytime you can finish on the podium it’s a good weekend. Jesse drove a great race – I was ready for him to make a mistake, but it just never happened. We didn’t have a lot of track time due to the rain on Friday, but Luke gave me a solid car, which we fine tuned after the first race and it was even better for race two. Six podiums in six races is pretty good – and we head to VIR in a couple of weeks for three more rounds, so I’m looking forward to improving on our results and grabbing more championship points.”

Team principal Harrison Brix said, “Six straight podiums, we couldnt ask for much more. Angel drove two great races this weekend, and he has been both fast and consistent since he jumped in the JDX / Hertz car at Watkins Glen. The team found a little more speed for the second race, but Jesse had just as much car as we did and that makes it tough to pass. We will head to VIR for three races, one of which is the make-up race from NOLA (New Orleans), so there are 60 championship points on the table and it’s our intention to grab most of them.”

The green flag for rounds 11 and 12 of the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama are scheduled August 21-23 at Virginia International Raceway in Alton, Virginia. The green flag for round 11 flies Saturday, August 22 at 8:50am EST, round 12 Sunday, August 23 at 9:20am EST and the make up race from NOLA (New Orleans) later that same day, 4:30pm EST. All races are timed, 45-minute events that support the Tudor United SportsCar Championship Oak Tree Grand Prix race on Sunday, August 23. Live timing and scoring will be available on IMSA.com.
